November 2010: closure of a successful year for Lebanon Trust

Lebanon Trust has closed the financial year 2009-2010, and sent a detailed report to all its donors to summarise its activities, its main accomplishments and its financial situation. Despite the difficult period due to the economic downturn, Lebanon Trust raised the necessary funds and delivered the help that we had promised. Many thanks to all our friends.

October 2010: Greetings from Lebanon to all our friends and donors

The volunteers of Lebanon Trust are in Beirut at the moment to work at the Father Andeweg Institute for the Deaf (FAID) and to deliver the donations to them and to the refugee kindergarten. On the left hand side, starting from top (click on the pictures to enlarge them): our Chairman Christy Kinsella (l) presenting FAID’s director Krikor Khasholian with a donation to finance one year of a speech therapist; C.Kinsella, Frosina the speech therapist, K. Khasholian; FAID’s teachers, pupils, and Lebanon Trust volunteers.

In the words of Krikor Khasholian, FAID’s Director:

On behalf of FAID, of its management, staff and pupils, I would like to express our deep appreciation of Lebanon Trust’s commitment to our Institute. Solely thanks to their fundraising efforts, we were able to employ a full-time speech therapist for the current school year, to teach our deaf children how to speak (which they otherwise could not learn). Also, the practical work carried out at the Institute by the volunteers themselves was instrumental for the proper usage and management of our facilities. Finally, their good humour was loved by the children, especially during a day of recreation and games that Lebanon Trust organised and ran.”

Also, Lebanon Trust visited the kindergarten in the refugee camp of Chatila in Beirut. It was a merry occasion of laughter, songs, candies and chocolates. Pictured left: our Chairman Christy Kinsella (l) presenting the kindergarten principal with a contribution for the reconstruction of the building’s roof; Christy with the kindergarten pupils and the Irish colours; Christy and our Treasurer Paul attending an Arabic lesson with much younger schoolmates.

Mariam, the kindergarten principal, says that:

We appreciate Lebanon Trust’s cooperation with Association Najdeh and it assistance with Chatila Kindergarten and children, where words are not enough to express our gratitude towards their generosity.”

October 2010: Lebanon Trust trip to Lebanon!

The big moment has come: the volunteers of Lebanon Trust travel to Beirut. We will give FAID our donations to finance a full-time speech therapist for a year, as we had committed to do, and will work on the school premises. Also, we will help finance a reconstruction project at a kindergarten in the refugee camp of Chatila, in Beirut.
